Just open a paper and all you see is doom and gloom. We hear it every day. We get up in the morning, and read it in the paper. We hear it on the radio going to work. We listen to everyone talking about it when we get to work and we hear it on the way home. Doom and gloom surround us. When this happens, this constant flow of pain and misery begin to affect us. We begin to get scared and worried about our own future and family’s future. We start to do and say things that we would not normally say. We start to tune in to the small annoyances of life. Those small things begin to overwhelm us. We quickly react to those situations. Everyone around us begins to suffer. We begin to lose hope.
Hope is a horrible thing to lose. Our minds are funny that way. With all the negative influences that happen in our daily lives, most of us forget about hope. We concentrate on the past and forget about the future. There is a silver lining to all of this. The big man upstairs has given us a wonderful gift. That gift is the power of choice. We can decide what we want to do about the situations that we face. We can decide to dwell on the negative or we can build hope in the future. It is up to you. I will guarantee you that this will not be the worst thing that happens to you. Start looking to the future and fill yourself with positive influences. Be a student of yourself and other people. Start to understand why you do the things you do and think the way you think. The other thing we can do is gain knowledge. Last year my wife was in a horrible car accident. When I got the call from the hospital, my mind immediately started to think of all the terrible things that could have happened. Since they would not give me any information on what happened, they left me in an initial state of panic. Is she hurt badly? Has she lost a limb, or even worse, is she dead. I realized that my thoughts were headed out of control. I then started to rationalize with myself. I tried to recall the things the man at the hospital said to me. One thing he did say was she was conscious and responding. So that ruled out death. I also thought that we can work threw anything else that could of happened to her. Calmness started to settle over me. The worry started to melt away. The ride to the hospital turned from panic to prayer. She did have a broken clavicle and a bunch of bruises and cuts, but she was ok.Everyone one has this power of choice. The trick is how to focus on the positive and concentrate on the future. You can change what you are and who you are, by changing what goes into your mind.
